These children of immigrants remix roots music and tell modern day stories with what LA Times calls a "uniquely Angeleno mishmash of punk, hip-hop, beat music, cumbia and rock” The band is taking the music world by storm with it’s international instrumentation, crossing genres and musical borders with infectious live performances.
LAS CAFETERAS' genre-bending sound & electric live performance feature four versatile vocalists infusing lyrically rich storytelling with the purpose of sharing the hidden stories of migrant life in Los Angeles. You will witness sounds ranging from Afro-Mexican to Americana, from traditional to electric, from English to Spanish with all the emotions in between. Travel to the past and listen to the future of the Americas in one show.
The band plays stages as diverse as the Lincoln Center in New York, Montreal Jazz Fest, Art Basel in Miami, & the Santa Barbara Bowl. Featured in CNN's "United Shades of America", Hulu original series "East Los High" & their theme song for internationally acclaimed telenovela "Bajo El Mismo Cielo" Las Cafeteras' relevant sound resonates across diverse audiences. They share stages with bands such as folk/indie favorites Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Mexican icons Cafe Tacuba, Colombian superstar Juanes, L.A. legends Ozomatli, the L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra, and most recently with Talib Kweli.
BULEVAR DESCARGA (BD) is a musical group from San Diego who began their journey playing original music in early 2013. These artists, musicians and critical thinkers produce their songs with the sole purpose of creating an energetic and positive atmosphere that will resonate throughout time. As a group of friends rooted from San Diego and Tijuana, most of them have also played together in different projects and bands that date back to the 90’s. BD is influenced mainly by classic rock, soul, reggae, funk, groove, classical, and Latin jazz.
Band members have played and shared the stage with musicians such as Sonora Santanera, Grupo Cañaveral, Charles McPherson, Jenny and the Mexicats, No Doubt, El Tri, Snoop Dogg, 311, Zac Brown Band, Jarabe de Palo, Gregory Isaacs, Don Carlos, Eek a Mouse, Cultura Profetica, Los Cafres, Molotov, Sergeant Garcia, Los Pericos, Barrington Levy and more.
The band is constantly working on music and projects that can help re-invent our nature in sound. As a big orchestra, there are many styles of music we each like individually and try to incorporate into our sound, such as: Latin, afro beat, reggae, jazz, funk, folk, boleros, flamenco, World-beat and much more. Some of the instruments you can find on any show are drums, percussion, keys, acoustic guitars, sax, trumpet, trombone, harmonica, Timbales, and others as well. We will continue to deliver quality music, positive vibe, and free expression from themes and songs talking about unity, earth, music, daily life and events.
