These children of immigrants remix roots music and tell modern day stories with what LA Times calls a "uniquely Angeleno mishmash of punk, hip-hop, beat music, cumbia and rock” The band is taking the music world by storm with it’s international instrumentation, crossing genres and musical borders with infectious live performances.
LAS CAFETERAS' genre-bending sound & electric live performance feature four versatile vocalists infusing lyrically rich storytelling with the purpose of sharing the hidden stories of migrant life in Los Angeles. You will witness sounds ranging from Afro-Mexican to Americana, from traditional to electric, from English to Spanish with all the emotions in between. Travel to the past and listen to the future of the Americas in one show.
The band plays stages as diverse as the Lincoln Center in New York, Montreal Jazz Fest, Art Basel in Miami, & the Santa Barbara Bowl. Featured in CNN's "United Shades of America", Hulu original series "East Los High" & their theme song for internationally acclaimed telenovela "Bajo El Mismo Cielo" Las Cafeteras' relevant sound resonates across diverse audiences. They share stages with bands such as folk/indie favorites Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Mexican icons Cafe Tacuba, Colombian superstar Juanes, L.A. legends Ozomatli, the L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra, and most recently with Talib Kweli.
